How Much Does Online Tutoring Cost?

Cost is the primary factor in deciding if you can hire an online tutor. Some tutors work for next to nothing and others can charge over $60 per hour for help. It is our nature to look for the best possible deal, but keep in mind that if you are looking for the cheapest help available, then you might be throwing your money away when the online tutoring and homework help you receive is not accurate or timely.

Some companies charge an hourly rate, while other companies charge a fee for each question. There are a variety of rates and payment methods, which allow you to choose which will work best for you.

Hiring an online tutor is no different than purchasing another service or product. The cheapest product most likely isn’t the best, because it usually contains flaws. The most expensive product usually proves to be no better than a product in the moderate price range. So, keep in mind that a tutor charging $30 per hour could potentially provide better, more efficient service than a tutor charging $60 per hour. But, remember the saying, “You get what you pay for…” – this holds true for online tutoring and homework help J

How Accurate is Online Homework Help?

It is really difficult to say how accurate online tutoring and homework help will be – there are many wonderful sites that provide very accurate and timely work and there are also some that have wonderful looking websites that provide very inaccurate solutions. Be sure to do some research about online tutoring to ensure that the homework help you receive will be helpful to you.

Be careful of some online tutoring service claims about ‘Satisfaction Guaranteed’ or ‘Money Back Guarantee’. Read the company’s disclaimer carefully before deciding to hire a tutor. Some online tutoring companies offer a Money Back Guarantee and then, when you look at the fine print, you will see that they offer 10% of your money back if you are not satisfied.

You would not willingly pay for solutions that aren’t correct, so it is very important that you verify the qualifications of your tutor before you start. Tutors that have graduate degrees (master’s or PhD) may be more qualified to help with your questions than tutors with undergraduate degrees (bachelor or associate) or no degree at all. Another thing to consider is how well the tutor will be at relaying the information. This is important, because even if the solutions are correct, they are of no use if you cannot understand the explanations because of a language barrier or because the instructor is not explaining things easily enough.

I hope that you can find online reviews to help you feel confident when locating online tutoring to help with your homework questions and concept understanding.

Happy Tutoring,

Davis

Finding Online Tutoring for your Teen

This is an excerpt from an article on How to Find a Tutor for Your Teen by Denise Witmer at About.com.

If your teen is struggling with his/her classes, tutoring can help him/her understand the subject matter better and obtain a higher grade. Many parents do not look at tutoring as a viable option because they do not understand the process of getting a tutor or they feel it will be too expensive. But it is imperative for frustrated teens to get all the help they can with their education. You can find your teen a tutor – maybe even for free - read how below.

Here's How:

1. Start tutoring early or as soon as you see a problem. Getting a tutor for your teen if he/she is already failing a class can be problematic and put more stress on your teen, although it is still needed. But most of the time, you’ll want to get him/her one as soon as he/she communicates that a class is difficult.

2. Call the school and ask what hours your teen’s teacher offers ‘extra help’. Then ask for any tutoring services offered at the school during school hours or right after school when your teen can take the activity bus home. If you and your teen decide to use extra help from the school, be sure to follow up with the teachers. The more you are involved, the more effort your teen’s teachers will give.

3. Ask the high school guidance office what local tutors they would recommend. Ask them if there are tutoring services given by your local community, like at the library. Often libraries have access to free small group or online tutoring services for students. You’ll want your teen to take advantage of this community service if it is available.

4. Call your local college. Find out about their tutoring services as college students often make great tutors and mentors for teens.

5. Look for a tutor online. There are online tutoring services available or you can get a recommendation for a private tutor at TutorNation.com.

6. Hire a private tutor from a tutoring service like Sylvan Learning Centers or Score! Educational Centers. This is the most expensive tutoring option, but it is worth the expense if it helps your teen obtain a better grade and maintain a positive attitude about his/her education.

I hope this information has been useful in helping you find an online tutoring service to help with your teenager's homework and concept understanding.

Thanks,

Davis

FAQ about Online Tutoring and Homework Help

This is an excerpt from an article on Online Tutoring by Jamie Littlefield at About.com.

*Homework Help through the Internet
If you’re stuck on a math problem or are struggling to write your term paper, online tutors can come to the rescue. Online tutoring is a convenient way for online students to get the extra help they need. With just a click of the mouse (and a few bucks, of course) you can get feedback from professors and professionals around the world.

*How does it work?
Each tutoring program has its own way of helping students. Some tutor over email or through a live messaging system. Others use videoconferencing or message boards. Just pick the one that fits you best.

*How much does it cost?
Online tutoring prices vary according to the program and the amount of help you need. Tutoring charges range from under twenty (for a quick edit of a paper) to hundreds of dollars (for a thorough read and revision of a lengthy essay).

*Is it cheating?
There are a lot of sites out there that will do your homework for you, but tutoring sites don’t fall in that category. Just like a tutor at a traditional school, these sites look over your work, make suggestions, and guide you to do your best. Check with your professor if you’re worried about an online tutoring program being perceived as cheating or plagiarism.

I hope this information has been useful in helping you find an online tutoring service to help with your homework and concept understanding.

Online Tutoring Options

Online tutoring can be found in a variety of shapes and forms. Some tutoring services provide online homework help using email, others hold tutoring sessions by phone or instant message, and some use other real-time tutoring methods using special software. See some of the various online methods used for online tutoring below:

*Online Tutoring by Email
The advantage to using services that rely on email for communication is that there is no scheduling to keep. You submit your request when you are available and the tutor sends the solutions when he is available. The disadvantage is that the process takes some time to complete - usually one to two days. Some of these services can also hold sessions by telephone and instant message on a needs basis.

*Online Tutoring by Phone
The advantage to using tutoring by phone is that assistance can be provided in real time and discussion can occur more quickly. The disadvantage is that it can be difficult to discuss mathematics concepts over the phone without being able to see the problems worked out step by step.

*Online Tutoring by Instant Message
The advantage to using tutoring by instant message is that assistance can be provided in real time and discussion can occur more quickly. This method is more useful if mathematics is being tutored, because instant messages have the capability of uploading files and sending screenshots that can help with seeing problems worked out step by step.

I hope this information has been useful in helping you find an online tutoring service to help with your homework and concept understanding.

Finding an Online Tutor or Homework Help

Are you having trouble with a class you are taking? Is your instructor difficult to understand or does he “talk over your head”? If you need some extra help with your homework or concept understanding, online tutoring and homework help is available for you. Finding a good online tutor can be quite a task and there are several things to consider when searching for online tutoring and homework help.

Online tutoring services can provide help with mathematics and writing based subjects. Math tutors can help with subjects like algebra, calculus, statistics, and physics. Writing tutors can help with any classes that utilize papers or thesis work, such as English and history.

Statistics tutoring, algebra tutoring, calculus tutoring, economics tutoring, chemistry tutoring, physics tutoring…shall I go on? Tutoring for many subject areas can be found online, but beware when searching for a qualified tutor to help you with your class. There are several things to consider besides cost…

Is my tutor qualified to help with my subject area? What days and times is my tutor available? Can my tutor speak and write fluent English? Will the calculations be shown step by step? Will the explanations and conclusions be written in a way that is easy for me to understand?

If these concerns are not addressed up front, then the issue of cost is irrelevant, because you could be throwing your money away when the assistance you receive is not helpful. It would be better to spend a little more on a tutor who can give you the best possible tutoring to help you understand.

How much is enough to spend for online tutoring? Some tutors can charge as much as $60 per hour for tutoring. You know the saying, “You get what you pay for…”, but would a tutor who charges $30 an hour be just as good as a tutor who charges $60 an hour? Sometimes it takes trial and error to find out, but from my experience, a product in the moderate price range works out the best – it doesn’t malfunction because it is the cheapest and it doesn’t prove to be just as good as a more moderately priced item. Tutoring is no different!

You may have to try out a few companies to see if these concerns would apply to you and your tutoring needs! Please post to this blog if you have information to share about online tutoring and homework help. If you are in search of an online tutor, good luck – keep us posted on how it’s going!
